Coastal Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding

The US coast from Cape Hatteras to New England is experiencing increased coastal or tidal flooding because of local sea level rise. I started this blog to track the developing scientific understanding of the causes and to provide sources of information to both scientists and anyone else interested.

Monthly Average Movie Update - April 2022




The data are the monthly averaged hourly water level data from NOAA: we take all the hourly data from, for example January 2021, and average it. The monthly averages for 2021 are shown by the thick black dashed line. The 2022 data are highlighted in red.
